The official launch event of 2014 British Business Awards (BBA) was held successfully on Wednesday evening at the British Ambassador’s residence in Beijing. Sebastian Wood, HM Ambassador to China, delivered the opening remarks at the event, which was attended by some 150 guests, including members of both BritCham and CBBC. The launch marked the opening of entries for the 2014 Awards, which applicants can now submit via the official BBA website at www.britishbusinessawards.org until 27 August.
The launch event was held in conjunction with the BritCham/CBBC British Business Briefing, at which sector experts from the UK Embassy deliver free monthly updates to BritCham/CBBC members on the political and economic landscape. Sebastian Wood, Patron of the British Business Awards 2014, delivered welcoming remarks at the launch in which he urged British and Chinese companies and individuals to participate in this year’s Awards and to demonstrate their achievements in UK-China business, a message which was underlined by Ralph Rogers, Director of the British Chamber of Commerce in China and the China-Britain Business Council, North China, and Dr Catherine Raines, Minister and Director-General of Trade and Investment, UKTI, China.
“As the British Ambassador to China, I’m delighted by the continuing achievements of the British Business Awards. The UK Government’s confidence is underlined by its support of the organisation’s far-ranging expansion throughout China in 2014. This is a strengthening of partnership between Britain and China and will substantially increase the support for British companies working with China,” said Sebastian Wood, Her Majesty’s Ambassador and Patron of the British Business Awards 2014.
“I am excited about the launch of our fifth British Business Awards in China. There are many success stories of British companies doing business in and with China, of British-educated alumni and of Chinese firms doing business in and with the UK. The BBA is a great platform to showcase these success stories and we urge people to come forward and share these, to be participants and to be involved,” said Ralph Rogers, Director of the British Chamber of Commerce in China and the China-Britain Business Council, North China.
For each award category there will be a panel of five judges, including one lead judge, composed of prominent members of British and Chinese industry and government. Entries close on 27 August, and online voting will be open between 10 and 27 September. The judging panels will then review the applications and shortlist five candidates per award. The judges will interview representatives of the five finalists in each category and submit recommendations to the advisory panel for their approval. The eight winners will be revealed at the British Business Awards 2014 Gala Dinner, to be held on 20 November in Beijing.
